Set up of Internet radio
You will need the following:
- Server to run on your computer (like ShoutCast Server 1.9.2)
- player for your mp3 music files (like WinAmp 2.91, new version does not work well) + plug-in for the WinAmp (Shout cast Source v1.8.2b)
- To solve the problems with server not visible from outside your network you will need to disable the Windows firewall (you do that from Start-> Show all connections -> right click on your ISP connection and choose properties. Click on the advanced tab and remove the check mark on firewall - then restart the connection)
Install and run more customiseable firewall (like Zone Alarm) on your computer to protect the other ports for vulnerability, because you will have to disable the windows firewall on your connection in order the server to be visible from any point in the world. Set the ZoneAlarm firewall settings on medium level zone security if you are running a local network for your home or office. Setting to highest level will interfere with the local computer network, but if you don't have one -my advice will be to set it to the highest, so you will get maximum protection.
You can check if your port is visible on the following link Radio Toolbox + enter 8000 for port - that will show you if the server is runnig and is visible from outside your network. Don't forget to start the server first.
- if you have no static DNS then you will need to do the following trick. You will have to register for free with Dynamic Network Services and set up a free dynamic DNS. Download the Dyn DNS updater and set it up with your user name and password and to automaticaly update your IP and redial the connection for you in case it drops.
If you have done all that correctly you should be able to run and enjoy your own I'net radio !
